My story with dental veneers is a complicated one. First let me start by saying that I have never been happy with my teeth. Even after having braces and dental headgear as a teenager my smile always was the cause of embarrassment, later in life people called me "tiny teeth" because my smile showed more gum than teeth.
After college, I got a decent job and decided to look into getting a "Hollywood Smile makeover" but I did not know how to go about it. Apparently, when I started to shop around for a cosmetic dentist was exactly the same time every dentist under the sun was offering cosmetic dental procedures resulting from advancements in technology and popularity during the up-tic in the economy. I thought it was my lucky day! There were deals and coupons everywhere I looked, so I was to make my decision based on price and location to make life easier for me; this was my first mistake.
The Bad Experience
I found a cosmetic dentist near my home about 40 miles outside San Francisco. The dentist had been in business for over 10 years, but when I walked in it had the feel of an HMO dentist, not a specialist. This should have been a red flag to abandon my consultation, but I moved forward and sat in the chair with Dr. Quan, and he began his hard sales process. It was hard to say no to some of his claims, and the prices were right, so I made an appointment to get my Veneers
When the procedure was over I knew that Dr. Quan was not an experienced cosmetic dentist, but someone looking to capitalize on the dental trends to make extra money. I was in excruciating pain and my teeth looks much different from the wax molds that the doctor showed me originally. The color was off, there were small gaps between each tooth and it hurt when I closed my jaw because the veneers were not fitted properly. I was freaking out! There is no going back when you get fitted for dental veneers so I had to find another option.
The Good Experience
I immediately looked for a cosmetic dentist who could fix my problem, no matter what the cost. I immediately looked a Beverly Hills dentist or someone practicing in New York City; both known for excellent cosmetic dentists. This process was not as easy as finding cheap dental care because most dentists in these areas have great track records and most of them five star reviews.
First, I looked at New York, only because I always wanted to see the city in the winter and do some Christmas shopping, but I quickly became overwhelmed by dentists in the Manhattan area and the price of accommodations and other costs of getting to NYC was way out of my budget.
The Beverly Hills Experience
Next I started looking for a Beverly Hills dentist, because I had a friend in Hollywood I could stay with and, lets be honest, the weather is much better and the shopping on Rodeo Drive is not to shabby either ;)
I ended up contacting a cosmetic dentist who came recommended by my friend, so I scheduled an appointment. The following Monday and she came with me to make sure I did not drive after my correction. His office was breathtaking, and his staff was friendly and accommodating.
It took most of the day to fix, but the results were like night and day! I had that perfect Hollywood smile I always wanted and the best part–no more pain! Dr. Glosman spent time with me and made me feel as if I were in an expert's good hands throughout the entire process. He did his own lab work so I was able to get fitted the same day, which saved me some travel expenses.
Takeaway
If you are planning on getting porcelain dental veneers, please see a dentist who specializes in the procedure you are looking for, it makes all the difference.
For example, Dr. Glosman does mostly veneers and dental implants so he has found his own art form and has developed his own process for sculpting perfect smiles. When it comes to your teeth, do not risk losing them to a hack or new dentist with no expedience.
